Report of Continued Human Rights Violation of Women and Children in Mozambique

There have been disturbing reports of continued attacks on the civilian population especially on women and children in Northern Mozambique. The killing of dozens of people by insurgents has raised humanitarian alert. Reports of rape and continued kidnapping of women by the insurgents have emerged.

Rape as a Weapon of War in Ethiopia’s Tigray Region

Reports have shown that sexual violence is on the increase in the Tigray region in Ethiopia with reports of rape used as a weapon of war. The report from doctors in the region has shown that women are being ganged raped drugged and held hostage. According to doctors attending to the rape victims, these crimes are being perpetuated by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces in the region. Young girls have been shot in a bit to resist rape from government forces and the forces have been accused of ethnic cleansing.

Reports of Killings in Western Ethiopia

An attack by gunmen in a western Ethiopia has claimed the lives of 30 civilians including women and children. A splinter group from the Oromo Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attack noting that they are fighting for the rights of the Oromia people which has allegedly been deprioritised by the government. Confits that erupt into violent conflicts affect women gravely and hinders them from achieving their full potential.

NGO Builds Shelter for GBV victims in Cape Town

The rise in Gender Based Violence against women in Southern Africa has increased the search for shelter for women affected. The 1000 Women Trust NGO has partnered with Citrusdal Farms to use part of their land in providing housing facilities for women experience GBV in their homes. In addition to this, the NGO will also build an empowerment hub raining centre on the farm to help women build capacity.

South Sudan Attack Leaves Nearly 30 Dead

A deadly attack on the convoy of Governor Louis Lobong Lojore of Juba has left 5 people dead. The governor was on his way back from a peace trip where another attack leaving 30 people dead had occurred. In a statement by the governor, these attacks were reprisal attacks. The governor has stated that the attacks will not stop him from promoting peace in the country.

ICC Upholds Conviction on Bosco Ntaganda

The international Criminal Court has upheld its sentence of warlord Bosco Ntaganda who perpetuated rape, forced marriage of women, sexual slavery, using child soldiers in perpetuating evil resulting to the loss of lives of hundreds of civilians and he fled the country where 90 million citizens were plunged into poverty as a result of the consistent conflict. He received the longest sentence the ICC has ever issued out.

Boko Haram Intensifies Attacks in Northern Cameroon

The insurgency group known as Boko Haram has had its strong hold around the Lake Chad Basin region for a long time. In recent times, the insurgency group has carried out numerous attacks on the civilian population in Cameroon displacing them from their  means of livelihood and destroying their food supplies leading to a drastic drop in income further exacerbated by the effects of the pandemic.
